Transform Your Patio: 4 Reasons Why Pavers are the Best Choice

It’s a beautiful sunny afternoon, and you’d like to enjoy it the best way possible – on your charming patio of course! Hardscapes are a great way to transform your yard into a functional and scenic place to relax comfortably. Whether you’re grilling in the summer, telling stories around a fire pit in the winter, or having drinks with friends on a warm spring eve – an elegant paver patio can turn your home into its own little getaway without ever having to leave! So, let’s discuss 4 reasons why pavers are the best choice to transform your patio:

The Perfect Choice for Your Next Outdoor Project

There are two main styles of hardscapes: organic and modern. Organic-looking scapes use natural stones and attempt to imitate nature. Modern hardscapes take advantage of cut (or manufactured) stone, such as pavers and wall blocks, to provide a crisp, contemporary look. While there are plenty of benefits to both, paver patios are celebrated for their ease of use and maintenance. Here are some of the best reasons to choose pavers for your next patio project.

Comfort and Convenience: the Advantages of Paver Patios for Outdoor Living

One of the best reasons to get a paver patio is the comfortability! When done well, pavers provide a smooth, clean surface to lay out furniture like adirondack chairs, tables, and grills. Also, modern hardscapes are ergonomically designed around convenience and ease of access, making your life as easy as possible. Organic hardscapes with natural stone – fractured or cut right from nature – have natural variation on their surface, which can cause furniture to sit unevenly. With pavers, there’s no need to worry about snagging on a rough stone surface since they are designed to be smooth. “Manufactured stones” are not truly stones but are actually poured concrete made to resemble stone. They’re often more cost-effective than natural stone for both material and installation price (but not necessarily).

Low Maintenance and Easy to Clean

Cut-stone pavers are famously much easier to clean and maintain than organic yard spaces. Because there is significantly less organic material involved in paver patios, there is not as much debris floating around that can get stuck in pores and cracks. Furthermore, when your annual spring cleaning comes around, pavers are a piece of cake to clean – all you need is a pressure washer! They are straightforward, relatively cheap to rent, and fun to use. Every year give your pavers a good spray, and they should look like new. You can’t always say the same for natural stone, unfortunately.

Understanding Permeable and Non-Permeable Pavers

Paver patios should always have a bit of slope to them, enough so that water drains off it naturally when it rains. Industry standard is at least a 1″ drop every 4′ across. Different pavers provide different methods for draining excess water beyond regular runoff as well. For example, permeable pavers (which are probably the most common) allow a portion of water to drain through the patio between the pavers. This is an excellent way to help keep from overflowing your drain system since some of the water goes directly down into the ground. There are a number of different styles of permeable pavers, too, giving you options to choose from. Non-permeable pavers are the opposite; they don’t allow any water to transfer through them – acting as one solid surface. These can be good options if you want to force all runoff into another drainage solution

Enhance Curb Appeal with Sharp and Stylish Hardscapes

Patios are always a welcome addition to a front yard. The sharp and stylish look of paver hardscapes is the biggest draw for most people. More people prefer the modern, contemporary look than the organic, natural look in most markets. Meaning if done right, patio designs using cut stone will always add value to your home. Contemporary- paver design is not for everyone, though, as “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” and some genuinely prefer the more natural look. Nevertheless, having a paver patio is always a major selling point in the housing market and can increase your property value by thousands. Organic designs can even be built around hardscapes to some degree, incorporating the best of both worlds.
